Unlock a PDF: Remove a Password When You Already Know It

Why decryption is different from cracking, and how to produce an unencrypted copy for workflows that reject password-protected files.

Legitimate unlock tools ask for the open password you already use in Acrobat or Preview. They remove encryption so printers, RPA tools, or legacy systems that cannot prompt for passwords can ingest the file.

No reputable service can recover a forgotten password from a modern encrypted PDF; that would defeat the purpose of encryption.

After you unlock

Store the unencrypted copy carefully. If the document is sensitive, prefer password protection again before sending, or use a controlled share link instead of email attachment.

If you only needed unlock for one system, delete local copies when your retention policy allows.
